science or art ？

"Agree or disagree :science makes a bigger contribution to society than art "By 2014 '1 Eiken 1 grade interview 

Although I belong to natural science department engaging in scientific study and I love solid state physics from my heart however I do NOT want to say "I agree "!

I wonder if a candidate who is aesthetic research er would answer and discuss the problem...??

Aesthetics is science for art.

I believe both Art and Science should contribute to our happiness as intelligent and cultural being,the question itself is nonsence.

BTW, the example answer is ”Yes“

but it corroborates "yes" from the point not science but Technology ,I thought.

「science とart どっちがより社会に大きな貢献をしているか？」というテーマの面接が英検一級であったらしい。

私は、大学院で物理系の研究をしていて、物性物理学を心から愛しているが、

どちらとも言えない、比べられないものを比べている、というのが私の率直な意見。まあ、試験ではどちらかに決めて議論しなければならないけど。

社会に貢献、といわれると直接それに答えてることになるのか微妙だけど、

学生がその分野を勉強・研究して幸せになれるなら、それってその学問が素晴らしい貢献をしていることになるんじゃないかしら、って思う。

試験的には、私なら、物性物理系だから、scienceの立場からの方が答えやすそうな気がするけど、

美学をやってる方なら、どう答えるんだろう？？

ちなみに模範解答は、Yes と答えて、

science というより、むしろ technology の貢献を列挙して確証してたけど、これは、私は良い解答とは思わない。

そういえば、「technology はscienceとは全く違う！私たちは、scienceではなくて、technologyをやっているんだ」 って、大学の工学系の学科に所属する研究者が言ってたのを聞いた。

私のイメージでは、大学の工学系は「science for technology 」だと思っていたのだけど、どうなのかしら？
